LA BONNE VIE Boreal Tordu Brick House Music- 2006 A Review By Paule Pachter, January 29 , 2007
The Canadian and New England based Boreal Tordu are on a cultural mission to make French live again in public through writing and singing new songs that reinterpret for today the essence of being French. With the release of their new CD entitled; “La Bonne Vie” (Good Life) the band succeeds in delivering twelve tracks that are sometimes as they say “jaunty and humorous.” But at every turn the music is pleasant, simplistic and most enjoyable. This quartet comprised of Steve Muise (fiddle, vocals, accordion, tapping feet), Robert Sylvain (vocals, guitar, dobro), Ron Bonnevie (drums, percussion), and Pip Walter (upright bass, vocals) take some traditional North American French songs and incorporate some beautiful original, yet traditional sounding tracks into this most pleasing CD.
Among the tracks that impressed me are: the title track; “Passe La Ville (Pass the City);” “Bonne Fete (Good Fete);” “Compte tes Enfants (Count Your Children);” and “Milltown Belle.” The simplistic music, coupled with excellent vocals earns “La Bonne Vie” four-peppers. You can purchase this CD online directly from the artists’ official website at: www.borealtordu.com or at Amazon
