Germany might be famous for such things as automobiles, beer and German engineering, but Zydeco music emanating from South Germany? Absolutely! And, the Zydeco Playboys are responsible for bringing their jumpy Zydeco and Tex-Mex sound to Deutschland and laying down fifteen tracks on a most enjoyable CD, which is anything but superficially satisfying. The Zydeco Playboys have taken some riffs from the Ardoins, the Eagles and the Cheniers, mixed them all together with some German ingenuity and come up with this unique sound featuring some very nice renditions of classic Zydeco and Blues, along with some very solid original material. Among the standout tracks featured on “Superficial Satisfaction” are: “Vamos danzar Tejano;” “Latent Blue;” “Oh Rosalina;” “Stir You Up;” and a jazzy rendition of “Iko Iko.” The Zydeco Playboys are: Oliver E. Kraus (accordion, lead vocals, organ and keyboards); Holger Blosch (bass, percussion and vocals); Richard Schwarz (drums, rubboard, percussion and background vocals); Volker Klenner (guitar and vocals); Andreas Patorek (rubboard and percussion), and Heiko Bokern (bass, percussion and vocals). “Superfical Satisfaction” is a most satisfying CD from a talented group of artists from South Germany who know how to Zydeco.
