The Chris Kenner Collection THE CHRIS KENNER COLLECTION
  Chris Kenner
  Fuel 2000 Records - 2003
5 PEPPERS!!!!! A Review By Paule Pachter, March 27, 2005

The late Chris Kenner may not be remembered as a songwriter and recording artist as well as some of the performers that recorded his music but he was responsible for leaving his mark on the musical soundtrack that defined the 1960s. The Louisiana native was one of the most prolific Rhythm and Blues songwriters of the era and his songs were recorded by such artists as Chuck Jackson and Maxine Brown ("Something You Got"), The Dave Clarke Five ("I Like It Like That"), and of course Wilson Pickett and Cannibal and The Headhunters ("Land of a 1000 Dances").

“The Chris Kenner Collection” is one of those memorable compilation recordings that bring back fond memories for the listener. The two-dozen tracks featured contain some of decade’s most enduring music when hit songs were rarely more than three minutes in length. Among the classics featured on the collection are: “I Like It Like That;” “Packin’ Up;” “Something You Got;” “Let Me Show You How to Twist;” and “Land of a 1000 Dances.” Although Kenner’s soulful style was nurtured as a gospel singer his music and voice helped define the blue-eyed soul sound that dominated a good part of the era.

Kenner who died of a heart attack in 1976 at the very young age of 47 was as they say, gone too soon. But thankfully his music lives on in this exceptional collection that earns a five-pepper rating. You can purchase this CD online at www.amazon.com.

We greatly appreciate your support and encouragement of The Zydeco Road. Working together, we can enhance the recognition that Zydeco music and its artists so greatly deserve on Long Island and within the Metro New York area.
