Workin' It
DONNA ANGELLE and the ZYDECO POSSE
  MTE Records - 2006
A Review By Paule Pachter, May 20 , 2006

Donna Angelle has been recording and performing Zydeco music in dance clubs all over the southwest region for more than eleven years. It may also be accurate to say that, Donna Angelle might have been performing in the shadow of more well known female Zydeco artists like Queen Ida and Rosie Ledet for most of her career. Well, with the release of her new CD entitled, “Workin’ It” on the MTE Records label that’s all about to change. Donna Angelle has just pulled ahead of the pack of Creole Zydeco women with an exceptionally exciting CD. On “Workin’ It,” Donna’s voice has never been better and her ability to pump the accordion is now unmatched by any other female artist. Her control of the accordion and her sound is also reminiscent of the late Beau Jocque. But don’t think for one second that my friend Donna is emulating the Zydeco Giant! She has clearly carved a new sound and in the process delivers one of the best CDs of 2006.

Donna Angelle has selected material that simply showcases her talents as an artist and vocalist. The songs are upbeat, lively, beautifully executed and demand that you get up and dance. Among the standouts included on “Workin’ It” are: “Rodeo Show;” “Creole Woman;” “Old Man Sweetheart” (her tribute to her mentor Boozoo Chavis); “Rockin’ It Steady;” “Groove Me;” “Don’t Let The Green Grass Fool You,” and “I Got A Pepper In My Shoe.” The other piece of this successful equation rests with the exceptional musicians that Donna has brought together in her Zydeco Posseto back her up. They include Chester Chevalier (guitar), Teddy Delcambre (drums), Michelle Citizen (srubboard), and Junius Antoine (bass).

Donna Angelle’s “Working It” is what Zydeco music is supposed to sound like. It’s well produced, imaginative and soulfully simple. Donna has worked her way to top of the pack and deserves to stay there for a while. The CD earns our highest five-pepper rating and deserves a place in your Zydeco collection. You can purchase “Workin’ It” on Amazon.Com, and don’t forget to visit Donna’s official website at: www.zydeco-diva.com.

We greatly appreciate your support and encouragement of The Zydeco Road. Working together, we can enhance the recognition that Zydeco music and its artists so greatly deserve on Long Island and within the Metro New York area.
