The Desperate Kingdom of Love C.J. Chenier World Village Music - 2006 A Review By Paule Pachter, May 22 , 2006
With the release of his debut CD entitled “The Desperate Kingdom of Love” for the World Village Music records label, C.J. Chenier travels back to a simpler time and place reminiscent of the good old days when his father Clifton Chenier ruled the Kingdom of Zydeco. He reaches deep down into his Zydeco and Blues roots and comes up with eleven exceptional tracks that showcase his talents as a master accordionist, keyboardist and one of the most soulful voices in southern music today. “The Desperate Kingdom of Love” is both a tribute to C.J. Chenier’s musical past and a reflection on the City of New Orleans before it was devastated by the floodwaters of Katrina and its people jeopardized by present day politics.
The CD is outstanding in it’s simplicity and allows C.J. to shine as an artist who possesses an extremely broad musical range, as evidenced by such impressive tracks as: “I’ve Been Good To You Baby;” “Learning To Live;” “Who’s Cheatin’ Who;” and his rendition of Van Morrison’s “Comfort You.” Chenier is out front on this CD as a musician, playing everything from accordion, washboard, Fender Rhodes and the Hammond B3 organ. He’s also backed up by a very capable quartet including Scott McEwen (string and electric bass), Adam Mujica (drums), Jean Falconetti (guitars), and Joe Deleault (piano).
“The Desperate Kingdom of Love” might be a musical throwback to a simpler time, but hopefully it symbolizes the beginning of new recording era for one of Zydeco’s premier artists. The CD earns a four-pepper rating and can be purchased online directly from the record label at: www.worldvillagemusic.com or at Amazon.Com

We greatly appreciate your support and encouragement of The Zydeco Road. Working together, we can enhance the recognition that Zydeco music and its artists so greatly deserve on Long Island and within the Metro New York area.[ Artist of the Month ] [Sounds of The Road ] [This Ain't No Rest Stop ]
