Le Tracas De Morris Morris Ardoin Maison de Soul Records - 2005 A Review By Paule Pachter, July 3, 2005
It doesn’t get anymore simple or traditional than an accordion player and a fiddle player performing Creole standards in perfect harmony. And when the accordionist is Morris Ardoin and the fiddle player is Dennis Stroughmatt its just perfect. Morris is the son of Creole music pioneer BoisSec Ardoin and one of the more soft-spoken and shy members of the Creole Zydeco dynasty. But on this CD, Mr. Morris is out front playing the classics. And, an accordion in the hands of anyone named Ardoin becomes magic.
Among the dozen no-frills tracks featured on this CD are very pleasant renditions of: “Eunice Two Step;” “Jolie Bassette;” “Jongle Moi;” and “Midland Two Step.” There are also a handful of guitarists backing up Mr. Morris and Dennis Stroughmatt including Blake Castille, Rick Lagneaux, Dr. C. Michael Brassieur and D’Jalma Garnier and Dexter Ardoin on the triangle.
“Le Tracas De Morris” is one of music’s simple pleasures that earn a three-pepper rating. You can purchase this CD online directly from the record label at: www.flattownmusic.com
