Straighten It Out Dikki Du and The Zydeco Crew Independent - 2006 A Review By Paule Pachter, August 2 , 2006
I’ve been following the career of my friend Troy Carrier (a.k.a Dikki Du) for a few years now. I’ve seen him perform live and I’ve watched him transform himself from Troy Carrier into Dikki Du. As far as young Zydeco artists go, Dikki Du could hold his own with the best of them. That was up until now. With his new CD, “Straighten It Out” my buddy Dikki Du is starting to pull away from the crowd. His sound is more polished. His voice is much more controlled and mature. And his arrangements are very tight and well produced. The son of the legendary Roy Carrier and the brother of Chubby Carrier is truly a class act on his own now. “Straighten It Out” is a true turning point for this young artist with enormous potential.
Dikki Du has mastered the triple row accordion and makes the squeeze box sing with the same passion that his father does. Among the standout tracks contained on this CD are: “Let’s Straighten It Out;” “Carrier Family Jam;” “Lonely Dancer;” and “My Zydeco Friends.”
In addition to Dikki Du on accordion and vocals, the very talented members of The Zydeco Krew include Gregg Gordon (drums), Paul Newman (bass), Raymond Randall (guitar), and Neal Carrier (rubboard). On the track “My Zydeco Friends,” Dikki Du pays tribute to the likes of J. Paul, Jr., Step Rideau and Keith Frank. The song speaks about how each of these artists has risen to the top of the pack as he was watching their careers and popularity rise. Well, Dikki Du is watching no more. With the release of “Straighten It Out” he’s rising to the top. The CD earns four-peppers and can be purchased online directly from the artist’s official website at: www.dikkidu.com
We greatly appreciate your support and encouragement of The Zydeco Road. Working together, we can enhance the recognition that Zydeco music and its artists so greatly deserve on Long Island and within the Metro New York area.[ Artist of the Month ] [Sounds of The Road ] [This Ain't No Rest Stop ]
