When The Back Porch Rockers Cajun Dance Band headlined
our Saturday Night Zydeco dance series this past winter,
I remember being amazed at their incredible sound, and being
surprised at the fact that this talented group of eight
musicians has never recorded. The Back Porch Rockers are
that good!
The band brings to the stage a mix of traditional and near
contemporary Cajun fare. Their sound is soft, extremely
sweet on the ears, and it is truly some of the nicest music
to dance to. Whether you’re a serious student of the
Cajun waltz or the Mamou two-step you can’t help but
sway when The Rockers perform.
In addition to their command of Cajun music and French
lyrics, The Rockers are some of the friendliest folks to
grace our Saturday Night Zydeco events. The band which hails
from New England, New York and other areas within the northeast
is comprised of: Nancy Weston (accordion, triangle, vocals);
Charlie Shaw (drums); Chris Slawinski (fiddle, vocals);
Henry Hample (fiddle, vocals); Louisiana native Jesse Lege
(accordion, vocals); Mark Estabrooks (fiddle, vocals); Chris
Froehlich Sanguedolce (guitar, vocals); and Bill Molloy
(bass).
The Rockers are seasoned musicians who know how to keep
the music flowing and the Cajun culture very much alive.
They bring an understanding of the music and of the Cajun
masters that created it. Lege who is a renowned accordionist
sites among their musical influences Amade Ardoin, Lawrence
Walker, Austin Pitre, and Marc Savoy. Lege and the Rockers
agree with what the Louisiana icon says about his cultural
heritage of music: "Share it or let it die."
