I’M NOT A BUBBLE GUM POP PRINCESS
                           AMANDA SHAW

                            Independent - 2004

5PEPPERS!!!!  A Review By Paule Pachter, August 12, 2004

Take one look at 12 year-old Amanda Shaw’s cover for her new CD, “I’m Not A Bubble Gum Pop Princess” and you sought of know that she’s recorded a whole different concept from her 2001 release, “Little Black Dog.” Opening up the album with a killer rendition (well at least a killer by a twelve year old’s standards) of The Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go” takes a great deal of confidence, and confidence is what Amanda Shaw is all about.

With her commanding talents on the fiddle, this former prodigy has emerged into a true musical artist with nobody’s shadow preceding her. At the young age of 12, Amanda Shaw has arrived and the future looks exceedingly bright for herself and the future of Louisiana’s export of talent.

Among the impressive material Miss Amanda has recorded on her latest release are such tracks as: Hank William’s “Long Gone Lonesome Blues,” a great cover of Chubby Carrier’s “Who Stole the Hot Sauce;” the riveting original “Dark Desires”, and the very catchy title track. Half of the CD is filled with Amanda’s renditions of Cajun two-steps and waltzes, while the other half features her work on classic rock, punk and more popular mainstream material. One minute she’s the precocious 12 year-old Cajun fiddler and the next minute she’s old beyond her years. Whatever possessed this mix to happen was surely intentional and it works very well.

Backing up Miss Amanda are some great musicians including Scott Thomas (guitar), Ronnie Falgout (bass), Mike Barras (drums) and the incomparable Joe Krown (piano). There are also guest appearances by Kevin Aucoin, Jonno Frishberg and Rockin’ Dopsie, Jr. that add significantly to the musical height this CD has hit.

Amanda Shaw’s “I’m Not a Bubble Gum Pop Princess” is her second CD to earn a consecutive five-pepper rating from us. You can purchase this CD and even see how special Amanda has taken care of ZydecoRoad.com on her official website at: www.amandashaw.com.

We greatly appreciate your support and encouragement of The Zydeco Road. Working together, we can enhance the recognition that Zydeco music and its artists so greatly deserve on Long Island and within the Metro New York area.
