New Orleans transplant Maurice Brown at age 24 is a quintessential Jazz trumpeter who has honed his craft and love for the music as a result of studying with he best the Jazz business has to offer. After years of formal musical education and stints as a supporting player with such Jazz greats as Lenny White, Curtis Fuller, Ellis Marsalis and Elvin Jones, he has released his first solo effort with his own quintet and the end result is pure enjoyment. The winner of the 2001 National Miles Davis Trumpet Competition, Maurice Brown’s style of Jazz is smooth and captivating even if you’re not a dedicated aficionado of the genre. Brown doesn’t just play the trumpet, he makes it sing and talk to you. “Hip To Bop” provides an opportunity for Brown to musically express himself through eight brilliantly produced tracks.
