As Rosie Ledet CDs go, “Pick It Up” is one of the best that “The Zydeco Sweetheart” has released in the past few years. There’s certainly enough musical and vocal diversity on “Pick It Up” to keep several of the dozen tracks playing continuously in your mind after the CD has been removed from its drive. The material on “Pick It Up” is fresh and lively. And like so much of Rosie Ledet’s recorded work some of the material borders on mainstream appeal. Among the most impressive tracks featured are: “I Love Louisiana;” “Chasing After Rainbows;” “Zydeco Boogaloo;” and “Don’t Leave Me;” Now as far as the title track goes you can always count on Rosie Ledet to add a little spice and sexual reference into her songs and “Pick It Up” certainly doesn’t fray from this formula. The song is about sexual enhancement drugs or a certain little blue pill prescribed for erectile dysfunction. How many Zydeco artists have the confidence to compose a bouncy little dance number about Viagra? The song and the entire CD simply work. Rosie Ledet also can boast about having a pretty stable and consistent group of musicians backing her up in The Zydeco Playboys including Lukey Ledet (drums), Kent August (lead and rhythm guitar), Kevin Cormier (lead and rhythm guitar), Chuck Bush (bass and lead guitar) and Lanice Ledet (rubboard). “Pick It Up” is truly one of Rosie Ledet’s best pieces of work in recent years.
