PIN YOUR SPIN

PIN YOUR SPIN
Jon Cleary and The Absolute Monster Gentlemen
  Basin Street Records - 2004
4 PEPPERS! A Review By Paule Pachter, October 6, 2005

There are many musicians in New Orleans that can play the keyboards with commanding authority. But few musicians attack the keys with the rhythmic force of Jon Cleary. Often on tour with some of the music industry’s top acts such as Bonnie Raitt, Jon Cleary is one keyboardist in demand. On his fourth solo CD, Cleary and his Absolute Monster Gentlemen band muster up enough soulful and jazzy material to place “Pin Your Spin” at the top of the musical heap. Cleary’s funky sound is crisp, energetic and powerfully inspiring.

Among the tracks that define Cleary’s unique funky style are: “Smile In A While;” the Latin infused “Oh No No No;” “Is It Any Wonder;” “Zulu Strut;” and the title track. In addition to the multi-talented Jon Cleary on keyboards, lead guitar, bass and vocals, the rest of The Absolute Monster Gentlemen are comprised of: Derwin Perkins (vocals, guitar); Cornell C. Williams (bass, vocals); Daniel Sadownick (percussions), and Raymond Weber (drums).

“Pin Your Spin” is another outstanding example of New Orleans funk from one of its leading exponents. You can Cha Cha, Mirengue, Mambo and Rumba all the way to the record store for this four pepper CD or purchase it online at Amazon or from the record label at www.basinstreetrecords.com.

your support and encouragement of The Zydeco Road. Working together, we can enhance the recognition that Zydeco music and its artists so greatly deserve on Long Island and within the Metro New York area.
