BAYOU ROAD Chubby Carrier and The Bayou Swamp Band Swampadelic Records - 2006 A Review By Paule Pachter, September 16, 2006
Like the man say’s, “there ain’t no party like a Chubby party.” And that’s what you get from Chubby Carrier on his brand new CD, “Bayou Road.” Carrier is one of the most energetic and electrifying performers squeezing the accordion today. On “Bayou Road” he packs in thirteen exciting, fast pumping tracks guaranteed to get you dancing or bopping uncontrollably in place. Carrier has great harmonies and a broad musical sound often unsurpassed by other zydeco artists. Among the standout tracks contained on the CD are: “I Can’t Wait To Get Back To Louisiana;” “Get In The Pocket;” “Soul Eyes;” “Sauce Picante Zydeco;” and his great reworks of “Cisco Kid” and The Who’s “Squeeze Box.” And of course the ultimate finale, which is a new version of his signature tune “Who Stole The Hot Sauce.” Carrier has always been a risk taker when it comes to his music and his ability to turn a mainstream pop standard into a zydeco classic. Like all of his recordings before this, my friend Chubby Carrier once again delivers the goods on “Bayou Road.”
The exceptional members of the Bayou Swamp Band backing Carrier up on his lead vocals and accordion are: Corey Duplechin (bass guitar); Earl Sally (washboard); A.J. Bellow (drums); and Dwayne Dugas (guitar). The CD also features a host of special guest artists including Curley Taylor (accordion and vocals), Rick Lagneaux (piano and organ), and Michael Juan Nunez (slide guitar).
The Father of Fun’s “Bayou Road” earns four peppers and can be purchased online from his official website at: www.chubbycarrier.com.
We greatly appreciate your support and encouragement of The Zydeco Road. Working together, we can enhance the recognition that Zydeco music and its artists so greatly deserve on Long Island and within the Metro New York area.[ Artist of the Month ] [Sounds of The Road ] [This Ain't No Rest Stop ]
