BLUES QUEEN OF NEW ORLEANS
  Marva Wright
  Mardi Gras Records- 2004
A Review By Paule Pachter, November 11 , 2005

If you don’t know who Marva Wright is or you’re not familiar with her powerful voice or physical presence, than you really don’t know all there is to know about New Orleans music. “The Blues Queen of New Orleans” and her unmistakable voice is a staple on the New Orleans music scene. Marva has performed all over the globe and her voice has graced the recordings of too many other artists to mention, and this is in addition to her own impressive catalog of CDs.

“Blues Queen of New Orleans” is a compilation of Marva’s best songs previously released on the Mardi Gras Records label. Mardi Gras Records has a great track record of releasing excellent compilation CDs of their roster of artists and this one is no exception. Among the gems that Marva plants her signature vocal style on are: “I Will Survive;” “Shake A Hand;” I’ll Take You There;” and “Wang Dang Doodle.” And, what she does to the torch classic “At Last” is simply heaven. You should buy this CD just to hear her rendition of “At Last.”

Marva Wright’s “Blues Queen of New Orleans” is a wonderful musical sample of one of New Orleans most unique performing and recording artists. The CD garners four-peppers and can be purchased online directly from the record company at: www.mardigrasrecords.com or at Amazon.Com.

your support and encouragement of The Zydeco Road. Working together, we can enhance the recognition that Zydeco music and its artists so greatly deserve on Long Island and within the Metro New York area.
