Racine's Racine's Swallow Records - 2006 A Review By Paule Pachter, October 29, 2006
If there ever was a Cajun “supergroup” it might just as well be “Racines.” Comprised of members of The Mamou Playboys, Red Stick Ramblers, Feufollet, and The Dewey Balfa Band, their self-titled CD is a tribute to their roots, featuring a compilation of tracks written by the masters, and performed exceptionally well. Racines consists of: Steve Riley (accordion, fiddle, guitar, vocals); Kevin Wimmer (fiddle, vocals); Mitch Reed (bass, fiddle); Chris Stafford (acoustic and electric guitars, lap steel); and Glen Fields (drums). The CD also features guest musicians Dirk Powell (banjo) and Brad Frank (rubboard).
Racines gets right down to business with the roots music, burning the fiddle bows and pumping the air out the accordion on such impressive tracks as: “Chere Bebe;” “Johnnie Billie Goat;” “My Baby She’s Gone to Stay;” “Mon Coeur Fait Pus Mal;” and “Crowley 2-Step.” Racines combines all forms of Louisiana music into their repertoire including Cajun, Zydeco, Swamp Pop and the Blues. The end result is a very special CD from some of Louisiana’s most influential and accomplished Cajun musicians that earns a three-pepper rating. “Racines” can be purchased directly online from the record label at: www.floydsrecordshop.com.
We greatly appreciate your support and encouragement of The Zydeco Road. Working together, we can enhance the recognition that Zydeco music and its artists so greatly deserve on Long Island and within the Metro New York area.[ Artist of the Month ] [Sounds of The Road ] [This Ain't No Rest Stop ]
