Dwayne Dopsie TRAVELING MAN
DWAYNE DOPSIE & THE ZYDECO HELLRAISERS
Sounds of New Orleans Records - 2006
5 PEPPERS! A Review By Paule Pachter, December 3 , 2006

It’s most appropriate that there’s flames on the cover of Dwayne Dopsie’s debut CD “Traveling Man” for the Sounds of New Orleans records label. This is simply stated, one of the hottest CD’s to be released in 2006. Dwayne Dopsie and The Zydeco Hellraisers have truly found their mark with the release of “Traveling Man.” The CD is high energy, high volume and wonderfully raucous. Dopsie’s voice and accordion prowess has never been better. In the hands of Gary Edwards, one of New Orleans best producers, Zydeco music has taken on a new freshness and excitement. Edwards’ produced Rockin’ Dopsie, Jr. and The Creole Zydeco Farmer’s previous CDs, and there’s a wonderful quality to the end product, which once again comes across with “Traveling Man.”

Although production quality is important, you can’t produce a great recording without a great artist. Dwayne Dopsie has approached greatness on this CD. Among the standout tracks are: “My Baby’s on the Phone;” “I Wish You Was Mine,” “My Louisiana Beauty;” “Thinking of You;” and “Everybody Say.” Dopsie has carved out a signature sound on “Traveling Man,” very much in the way that when you hear Buckwheat Zydeco, Nathan Williams, Beau Jocque or Lynn August you immediately know the voice and the sound.

Backing Dopsie (accordion and vocals) up are some exceptional musicians including Ronnie Sam (washboard), Calvin Sam (drums), Glenn Sam (bass), Chad Welling (guitar), and Curnis Andrus (saxophone). “Traveling Man” is an appropriate title for this CD since Dwayne Dopsie will most likely log some serious miles once the dancing and listening public get an earful of this CD, which earns our highest five-pepper rating. You can purchase “Traveling Man” online directly from the record label at: www.SoundsOfNewOrleans.com

We greatly appreciate your support and encouragement of The Zydeco Road. Working together, we can enhance the recognition that Zydeco music and its artists so greatly deserve on Long Island and within the Metro New York area.
